Salamanca is a Spanish municipality and city, capital of the homonymous province, located in the autonomous community of Castilla y León. It is located in the Campo de Salamanca region, in the middle of the North Plateau, in the northwest quadrant of the Iberian Peninsula.
Salamanca has two cathedrals, the old one, dating from the 12th century and in the Romanesque style, and the new one, much larger, begun in the 16th century in the Gothic style and completed in the 18th century. The place where the two meet is known as Patio Chico and it is one of the most charming corners of the city.
