The Magdalena Chapel, founded around 1330 in the heart of Arzúa, is a small historical jewel of the Camino de Santiago that originally formed part of an Augustinian convent and a hospital for walkers. Of Gothic style and sober construction, it stands out externally for its robust granite ashlar facade, its pointed arch door, and a simple bell gable, while its interior guards as its greatest treasure an elegant ribbed vault and ancient tombs attached to the walls. Although much of the original convent complex disappeared after the Confiscation in the 19th century, this building managed to survive the passage of time; today, after being restored, the chapel has left behind its former religious function to reinvent itself as a cultural space and exhibition hall, keeping alive its essence of hospitality for both local residents and contemporary pilgrims.
